L9. Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate (SG)

Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate is the stearyl ester of 18-ß-gly- cyrrhetinic acid. 18-ß-glycyrrhetinic acid is obtained by hydrolysis of glycyrrhizinate extracted from the roots of licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra).Since thousands of years licorice root is an estab- lished cure. Also the food industry produces licorice out of these roots.The cosmetic industry is using different licorice de-rivatives because of their skin soothing efficacy.

The multifunctionality of this active ingredient makes it very interesting for a number of cosmetic formulations, particularly for After Sun and After Shave Products.

Solubility

Soluble in mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, stearyl alcohol and petroleum jelly; very

slightly soluble in water
